The Boulder Youth symphony society holds three orchestras.

• The Boulder Junior Youth Symphony

The Boulder Youth Symphony Society was founded in the fall of 1984. In 1998, the Junior Youth Symphony was added to reach younger musicians interested in the orchestral experience. In January of 2002 the Chamber Orchestra was added. The goal in adding the Chamber is to provide a challenging musical opportunity under the Baton of C. Paige Vickery for young musicians who fall between the already established BJYS and BYS. The Chamber and Junior Symphony provide an ideal transition into the Boulder Youth Symphony.

To promote optimal artistic advancement and musical development in young musicians through high quality study and performance of diverse and challenging instrumental music.

Create lifelong excitement and interest in music as performers and audience members.

Enrich and support existing school and private music programs.

Provide inspiring leadership and motivation that instills pride, self-esteem, and discipline in young musicians.

Establish and maintain positive relationships with members, parents, school programs, music teachers, professional and civic orchestras, area colleges, music organizations and the public.

Form musical ensembles of optimal depth, balance and variety that challenge each young instrumentalist's ability and technical advancement.

The Youth Symphony and the Community

Through the Boulder Youth Symphony Society, Boulder audiences enjoy a quality classical music experience. The opportunity for Boulder children to see the BYS perform provides great incentive for them to participate in music themselves, greatly benefiting school music programs and private music teachers in the area. The BYSS presents several concerts per season. Concerts often feature professional guest soloists. Past guest soloists have included well-known artists.

The orchestra's music is challenging and educational. BYS provides a unique opportunity to work closely with Maetro Vickery and with professional coaches. Bringing diverse groups of young people together from throughout the region to perform in a professional setting and to rehears and prepare music under demanding conditions. The Boulder Youth Symphony Society provides the best possible music education experience for aspiring musicians.
