Pancytopenia

A depression of each of the normal bone marrow elements (WBCs, RBCs, platelets) in the peripheral blood

Pathology

The study of disease by the microscopic examination of tissues and blood

Petechiae

Tiny areas of bleeding under the skin, usually caused by a low platelet count

Poikilocytosis

Abnormal variation in shape of RBCs

Prognosis

The projected outcome of a disease; the life expectancy

Remission

Complete or partial disappearance of the signs and symptoms of a disease

Radiation Therapy

X-ray treatment that damages or kills cancer cells

Radiologist

A doctor who specializes in the use of x-rays to diagnose and treat disease

Schistocytes

Abnormal red cell that is formed when pieces of the red cell membrane become fragmented. Whole pieces of red cell membrane appear to be missing, causing bizarre looking RBCs
