AML (M2)

Acute Myeloblastic leukemia with differentiation

  • Leukemic marrow infiltrate resemble M1 except evidence of maturation to or beyond the promyelocyte stage is present.

  • Romanowsky stained bone marrow smears showing promyelocytes constitute more than 10% of the immature cells.

  • More than 50 % of leukemic cells are peroxidase or Sudan Black positive (color plate 152).

  • NSE activity does not exceed 20%.

  • Together, M1 and M2 account for approximately 50% of all cases of AML.

  • Aside from morphology and cytochemistry, they do not have unique features that set them apart from other AMLs.
